Festival of India Launch Party

Sunday, June 26th – 12pm to 10pm

To kick off the official countdown to the 44th Annual Festival of India, a special day-long launch party will be held at Yonge-Dundas Square. The festival will include a cavalcade of activities, attractions, and performances, including live art, vegetarian cooking demonstrations, free yoga classes, a South Asian bazaar, delicious food from Govinda’s, henna tattoos, face-painting, dress-in-a-saree booths, and more.

Also, be sure to stay until the evening to participate in an incredible, interactive mantra concert (kirtan) in which ancient sounds from the east will reverberate and grace Toronto’s busiest corner!

12-Hour Kirtan – Friday, July 15th – 10am to 10pm
Festival of India is
thrilled to announce that once again we will beholding a pre-festival on July 15, 2016! Alongside many kirtaneers such as B.B. Govinda Swami, Amala Kirtan, Agnideva, Akinchana Krishna, Krishna Kishore and MANY MORE from across the globe. We will
be spiritually tearing the roof off with a 12-hour kirtan marathon, starting at 10:00AM until 10:00PM.
Chanting, drumming and dancing! 12 Hour Kirtan Festival at the historic Hare Krishna Temple on 243 Avenue Rd is an incredible 12-hours of chanting the famous Hare Krishna mantra. Featuring chanters from USA, India, Canada and more, this amazing experience is not to be missed!Prepare to ‘feed your soul’ with this extraordinary one-of-a-kind kirtan event at Festival of India.

Saturday, July 16th to Sunday, July 17th

The Festival of India has taken place in Toronto
for over 40 years, yet its rich history actually stems from thousands
of years of tradition and heritage. The festival begins with a vibrantparade down Yonge Street in which three giant floats are hand-pulled by thousands of attendees and spectators amidst melodious singing, chanting, drumming, and dancing. Everyone is invited to come walk, chant, sing or dance in the parade.After the parade on Yonge, Festival of India celebrations continue for the remainder of the weekend at Centre Island. Festival attendees will be treated to a sumptuous and FREE vegetarian feast along with a host of other family-friendly activities, including:

  • a massive, outdoor tented pavilion
  • acclaimed music, dance, & drama performances – Arts & Culture
  • a bustling South Asian Bazaar – Vendors
  • intriguing exhibits on ancient spiritual culture and heritage
  • traditional face-painting
  • an outdoor yoga festival – Yoga Meltdown
  • a fun-filled and educational children’s area including yoga for children.

Yoga Meltdown is Toronto’s largest outdoor, spiritual yoga festival. This unique “festival within a festival” runs as a part of the Festival of India atCentre Island.
